You can access your subscription by logging into your SketchUp account linked to your Trimble ID. Each user account can only be associated with one individual person, or as we call it a “named user.” You cannot create a generalised user account that is shared by more than one person. You also cannot create more than one user account per person.

SketchUp subscriptions are annual. When your subscription begins you’re entitled to use all the features contained within your chosen SketchUp Subscription for one full year. If SketchUp decide to change subscription terms, we’ll make sure to let you know.

SketchUp subscriptions are set to auto-renew every year on the date of your initial purchase. If you disable auto-renew, you will lose access to your subscription products and services on that renewal date.

When you sign up for a subscription you’ll prepay for the full term of your annual subscription. If you do not want to pay for an additional year you can disable auto renewal. You will be able to use the applications in your subscription for the remainder of your annual term. There are no partial refunds if you stop using your subscription before the end of the term.

We offer two ways for you to opt out of automatic renewal of your subscription:

  • At any time prior to your renewal date you can opt out from the Plan Settings section of your account.
  • Notify BuildingPoint SA in writing at least 30 days before the expiration of your subscription.

Subscriptions are intended for use by a single named-user, a real person using their first name, last name, and email address, for the duration of the subscription term. Reassigning or transferring a subscription or seat is only allowed in the following circumstances:

  • If a seat is inadvertently assigned to the wrong user at time of purchase.
  • If a seat is assigned to an employee of your company and that employee leaves during the subscription term. That seat may be reassigned only once during the subscription term.
  • At the time of subscription renewal you may reassign a seat.

SketchUp limits installations of each application included in a subscription to two computers and/or devices. If you wish to transfer an application to a different computer or device, you should sign out of the application before installing the application in a new location and signing in. If you don’t have access to those other devices, you can always deauthorise all devices and sign in on your new device.

No. SketchUp subscriptions are independent of SketchUp Pro classic license purchases, and the SketchUp Maintenance and Support Plan does not cover support for any of the subscriptions.

SketchUp desktop products will become unsupported on January 31st of the third year after the product’s release year. For example, SketchUp 2020’s End of Support date is January 31, 2023. For more information, see the End of Support Policy article.

Yes! The SketchUp trial we’ve always offered is now a trial of SketchUp Studio and includes ALL of the features included in that package. If you only wish to try out SketchUp Pro for Desktop or SketchUp Web’s paid features, you can still do that with your SketchUp Studio trial here.

You can always access your files after cancelling your subscription using SketchUp Free, with one exception. If you exceed Trimble Connect’s free quota of 10gb of stored data all of your files will be set to read-only. This will also restrict usage of Sketchup web by preventing you from saving new files. To download your files and store them locally, sign into Trimble Connect.

Customers can request a refund within 14 days of purchasing. Please note that cancelling your subscription WILL NOT automatically result in a refund request being sent to our team. Please contact our support team directly to request a refund.

Downloading SketchUp

Like many computer programs, SketchUp requires certain hardware and software specifications in order to install and run. These are basic requirements, though, so you may want to use our recommended suggestions to improve performance.

There could be several reasons why you can’t download SketchUp on your Windows computer, including low disk space, lack of administrator privileges, outdated web browser, internet connectivity issues, etc. For more troubleshooting go here.

If you’re getting an error message during the download process, try clearing your browser cache and cookies, restarting your computer, and then trying the download again. If the issue persists, reach out to our customer support for assistance.

The time it takes to download SketchUp will vary depending on your internet speed. On average, it should take about 10-15 minutes to download the software on a high-speed internet connection.

Installing SketchUp

Installation instructions for Windows:

1. Open the downloaded Installer file as an Administrator. You may need to see a security prompt and will need to give SketchUp permission to make changes (install) on the computer. This step may take a while, so be patient if it seems like nothing is happening.

2. When the installation window opens, you’ll have the option to change the application language and choose a different installation directory. Click Install, and the Installer will show a progress bar. Tip: While it is possible to choose any location, we recommend keeping SketchUp installed on the C:\ drive.

3. Once you see the “SketchUp 2022 is Ready to Go!” message you can click on the SketchUp icon in the window to launch SketchUp right away, alternatively you can click Finish to close out the installer. You may want to reboot your computer after the installation completes.

Installation instructions for Mac:

Make sure you’re logged into your computer as a user who has Administrative privileges.

1. Close any existing application versions of SketchUp, Layout, and StyleBuilder. Tip: You may also want to remove any existing SketchUp icons from your dock from previous versions (Right-click on the dock icon > Options > Remove from Dock), to avoid version mixups.

2. Locate and double-click on the Installer file (DMG file, probably in your Downloads folder). This will mount the installer drive and open a window with a SketchUp icon on it.

3. Drag the SketchUp icon and Drop it in the Applications folder to copy the application to your computer.

4. You’ll see a progress bar as the files are copied, once this is complete you’ll have a new SketchUp folder under Applications.

5. To launch SketchUp you’ll navigate to the SketchUp folder and Double Click the SketchUp icon.

6. The first time you launch the software, you may be prompted with security message, if so, click Open.

7. You should now close the Installer window and delete the Disk Image drive icon from your desktop by dragging it to the Trash Can. Note that this icon is not the SketchUp application. You may want to reboot your computer after the installation completes.

This may be due to compatibility issues with your operating system, insufficient disk space, or an existing installation of SketchUp that needs to be uninstalled first.

Try running the installer as an administrator, disabling any security software temporarily, or reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package.

This means that there is an existing installation of SketchUp on your computer that needs to be uninstalled before installing the new version.

Consult your network administrator for assistance with installing SketchUp on a network-attached computer.

This can be due to a corrupt installation file, a missing or corrupt .NET framework, or a temporary issue with your internet connection. Try downloading the installation file again or reinstalling the .NET framework.

Troubleshooting

This can be due to several reasons such as having too many large files open, having insufficient RAM, or having an outdated graphics card driver.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling SketchUp or the affected extension, or resetting the Styles panel to default settings

This may be due to incorrect page setup or print scaling settings, or because the model is too complex. Try simplifying the model or adjusting the print settings.

This may be due to the view being in wireframe mode, the visibility of the component or layer being turned off, or an issue with graphics card acceleration.

Try updating to the latest version of the plugin or extension, or uninstalling and reinstalling it. If the issue persists, contact the plugin developer for further assistance.

Activating your subscription

You’ll need to be online to activate your paid plan

  • A single-user license or subscription seat can only be used by the one registered/assigned user, but that user can activate their license or sign-in on 2 computers.

  • If you don’t see the Welcome to SketchUp dialog box when you opened SketchUp, select Help > Welcome to SketchUp.

Upon opening SketchUp, you should see a screen that prompts you to sign in. At this point you need to stop and be sure of which of the 2 SketchUp Pro plan options you’ve purchased:

If you received an email with an account number, then you have the yearly sign-in-activation plan and don’t need or have a license number.

Haven’t purchased SketchUp yet? Simply sign-in to activate a 30-day trial of our highest-tier “Studio” plan!

If you signed up for a yearly Pro subscription or if you are a trial user, go ahead and sign-in with the end-user email address you selected when signing up. Signing-in will activate your subscription.

Technical questions

A Single-user license of SketchUp Pro is assigned to one person and can only be used by the registered user. That individual can install the license on up to two computers he or she is using. Basically, “One user, two computers”.

Please visit our Help Center article on Transferring SketchUp to a new computer or license multiple computers for more information.

Please note, SketchUp reverts to English if your operating system’s language doesn’t match the language version of SketchUp that you installed.

For example, if you’ve downloaded the French version and your operating system is set to English, you see the English version of SketchUp.

We recommend trying a few things if you are stuck in the endless loop of trying to log in.
